Jiu Jitsu takes years of training, dedication, discipline and hard work. While earning a black belt is the ultimate goal for most who start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it may take up to 10 years to receive one. Once you start training, you realize that this is a worthwhile journey. We take you step by step through the process by creating smaller obtainable goals and ways to achieve them.
Let everyone know it is your first time doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, our classes are very supportive and welcoming to beginners. Make sure to keep moving around and be aware of your surroundings. Ask questions! We are here to help you learn and achieve your goals. Come with an open mind for this new experience.
Don’t talk to the referee; don’t slam your opponent down; use the action/reaction principle; use your strongest muscles against their weakest ones especially when up against a bigger and/or stronger opponent; when you receive the tap you must stop at once; practice mutual respect; enjoy the process and have fun.
For best results and to have an ideal workout, three to five times a week is good for most people. Once you have completed a few classes and have made some goals, discuss this with your instructor. They can give better guidelines and help you determine a practice schedule.
There are five belt levels – going from lowest to highest: white, blue, purple, brown, and black.
No! It may help you, but being fit is not a must for starting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. People of all ages, sizes and abilities can begin training. If you would like some additional information, please contact us. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
No, we have bare feet on the mats and during training. Though shoes are recommended while off the mats.
